Washington State University Extension will host the first “Stop & Talk” of the canola growing season Thursday at the Dewald farm south of Ritzville.  WSU Extension’s Karen Sowers told the Washington Ag Network they’ve received many questions about the condition of winter canola as spring approaches.  She said with WSU extension staff on hand Thursday will be a great opportunity for canola growers, or those looking at adding the rotation crop to get questions answered.

“Providing information across the whole gamut of canola production and having contacts to answer questions they may not be able to answer on the spot.  And we’ll also have a couple of industry people there.  Viterra, represented there, the crushing facility in Warden.”

Sowers said Thursday’s event will take place where several winter variety trials are taking place.

“So, we’ll be able to walk the plots, and while the canola plants are still fairly small we should be able to see a few differences between the seven entries that we have in the trail.”

Thursday’s Stop & Talk starts at 4 p.m. at Rob Dewald’s farm on Dewald Rd. north of Gering Rd. Click Here for a map.
