Value Of Beef Exports Climbed In July
The value of exports of U.S. beef climbed in July. U.S. Meat Export Federation President and and CEO Dan Halstrom said volume was fairly even year-over-year, but exports were up 6%, or nearly $800 million globally, which he said continues to point to resilient demand.
“And on a per-head basis, that's over $420 per head attributable to exports, which is a significant increase from prior year. So, if you look at the global landscape, we have several areas of the world performing well,' Halstrom said. "Mexico, one of the largest months year-to-date. You look at Taiwan, up 38% on value, Japan up significantly, Caribbean up significantly, and even Central America continues to perform well.”
Halstrom noted while the news is primarily positive, there were a few disapointments.
“The one market of course that's down year-on-year, continues to be China," he said. "We do have some, I would say, cautious optimism with the upcoming Xi and Trump meeting here later in September, which we would hope could provide some progress for agriculture as we go forward.”
Halstrom added while pork exports were down 6% both on volume and value, producers still say a pretty good value at nearly $63 per-head.
