Because of the pandemic, the Auction of Washington Wines was unable to hold their Private Barrel Auction back in August. To make up for lost time, AWW is holding a virtual auction Tuesday afternoon. Much like past years, the event will showcase some of the best wines Washington has to offer, going to restaurants, big box stores and even collectors. But with the event being on-line several things had to be changed; most notably the samples of wines up for auction.

“We reached out to many of the top past buyers we’ve had and asked if they would like samples, barrel samples of those wines sent to them, so they could taste them and be able to have more informed pallet when it came to bidding on those wines," noted AWW Executive Director Jamie Peha. "So, that was a whole program in of itself.”

Peha said while challenging to get those samples out, wineries across Washington were extremely helpful. She added not only do customers get fabulous and unique Washington wine, the Private Barrel Auction is an opportunity for the wine industry to give back to the wine industry.

“All of the proceeds from this event benefits Washington State University’s viticulture and Enology research, which is really going to sustain the future of Washington wine and future grape growers and wine makers through this really critical research that they’re doing through the Wine Science center.”

The virtual Private Barrel Auction gets underway Tuesday at 4 p.m. Pacific. Click Here to learn more, or to check out the highlighted wines in this year’s auction.
