An American Farm Bureau official disputes the claim that President Trump’s six-month grace period for Congress to come up with a replacement for the DACA program will delay tax reform efforts.   AFBF trade advisor Pat Wolff doesn’t buy the claim that Congress has now been knocked off its fall schedule by DACA and spending bills to keep the government operational.

“Congress kicked the can down the road to December on a lot of the big issues that were expected to take time in September.  That means the ongoing efforts for tax reform can move forward.”

Wolff noted that several ranking Senators say they are ready to tackle tax reform, regardless of other issues that may arise, such as DACA.  Wolff said passing tax reform, could boost producers' bottom, and Congress has been laying the need groundwork.

“People get back to Washington this week, nothing’s really certain until they get reorganized and get going but there is every reason to believe that tax legislation will start moving through Congress in September.”

Wolff said that doesn't mean tax reform will get done right away.  The stated goal is to do it this year, but she says the schedule could spill over into the beginning of next year, with the hope a bill can be enacted before the campaign season gets into full swing.
