WSDA, ODA Participating in Women Farm to Food Business Competition

In an effort to support women in agriculture, the Washington state Department of Agriculture, the Oregon Department of Agriculture are partnering up with the National Association of state Departments of Agriculture for the Women in Farm to Food Business Competition.  Laura Raymond with the WSDA with the face of agriculture evolving, the competition could not have come at a better time.  She noted the role of women in agriculture has always been pivotal, but now, those roles are becoming more visible.

"They’re claiming their place more, and the contributions that they’ve made and are making to agriculture, and I think that is just a fantastic thing for the future.  The more people we have involved in agriculture, the more prospective and creative ideas we have around how to make agricultural businesses viable and exciting and enticing for the next generation of farmers.”

The Competition itself is open to women-owned food and beverage business in both states.  Applicants must complete and on-line application and submit a three minute video promoting their business.  Up for grabs, a $20,000 grand prize, as well as a $10,000 and two $5,000 prizes for runners up.
