For the first time in more than 20 years the United States will host the World Meat Congress.  The event will take place in Dallas, TX, May 30th through June 1st.  USMEF CEO Emeritus Philip Seng said this meeting which occurs every other year is a gathering of different trade associations, government officials as well as private industry.

“And the idea there is we all share information primarily about what we can do to be trade progressive.  There are a lot of lessons to be learned because it helps us become familiar with other countries, other issues, sometimes we have common issues and there’s a multitude of areas where.”

Seng said these gathering are very beneficial to the red meat industry internationally.  During the Congress, USMEF will host workshops on trade, economics, societal norms and those impacts on companies as well as producers.

On top of that, Seng said there will be a “heavy dose” of discussion on the consumer and the consumer of tomorrow.  Seng anticipates the World Meat Congress will attract a wide variety of individuals and groups, directly and indirectly impacted by the meat industry.

“As suppliers as producers, transportation pharma companies, you go down the line, anybody who benefits from a growing and expanding industry I think should attend because they will find something of interest.  The most pressing issues that we’re dealing with today, they’ll be addressed at this Congress.”
