The fifth National Conference for Women in Sustainable Agriculture will take place in Portland November 30th through December 2nd.

Maud Powell with Oregon State University said there will be workshops for veterans, building soil, transition, enterprise budgeting and much more.

“Grow, sew, reap, repeat; that’s kind of the tagline of the conference and it’s about building connections towards resiliency.”

Powell said women thrive when they can network and learn together and this conference will allow several opportunities to do that.

Women are growing as farm owners and operators with 30 percent of farms nationwide being run by women, something Powell said highlights the importance of the conference.

“Because women have traditionally been somewhat marginalized in agriculture, we feel like it’s really important to create a space where women feel comfortable in sharing information and presenting information and really attuning to the needs that are specific to women farmers.”

This will be the first time this particular conference has been on the West Coast and it quickly sold out. But Powell said they will put all of the powerpoints from the presentations on their website after the conference.
