Registration is now open for the 2017 Women in Ag conference which will focus on the concept of leadership.

WSU’s Margaret Viebrock said it's about, “Women taking a greater role in how they manage their farms, how they manage their people and then becoming involved in the community and also in ag organizations to put a different spin on leadership and to make the changes that need to be made for them.”

The conference was created since many women didn’t feel comfortable in seminars and workshops that seemed to be geared towards men, and they also had different learning styles.

The conference can be viewed from 40 different locations in five different states, particularly communities in need where other options might not be available according to Viebrock.

“It’s not necessarily always the woman who is driving the tractor, driving the truck, working in the field. I think women are involved in agriculture in the industry. They’re involved as a banker, a lender. They might have a CSA project. They might just be growing food on a couple of acres and so the size [of the farm] doesn’t matter, the location doesn’t matter. It’s just important that women in ag get together and share their concerns and work together for solutions.”

Each location has a limited number of seats available, so Viebrock said it’s important to register as early as you can.
