According to NASS, as of August 1st, the winter wheat crop in Idaho is forecast at 65.5 million bushels, unchanged from July 1st numbers, but 44% larger than last year.   Harvested area, at 720,000 acres, is up 80,000 acres from 2021.  Yield is expected to be 91.0 bushels per acre, up 20.0 bushels from 2021.

 

Winter wheat production in Oregon is forecast at 47.9 million bushels, up 3% from last month and up 51% year-over-year.   Harvested area, at 715,000 acres, is up 10,000 acres from 2021.  Yield is expected to be 67.0 bushels per acre, up 22.0 bushels from the previous year.

 

Washington’s winter wheat crop is forecast at 129 million bushels, down 1% from last month but up 82% from 2021.   Harvested area, at 1.79 million acres, is up 100,000 acres from 2021.  Yield is expected to be 72.0 bushels per acre, up 30.0 bushels from the previous year.

 

Idaho spring wheat production is forecast at 42.3 million bushels, up 2% from the July 1 forecast and up 38% from last year.  Harvested area, at 450,000 acres, is down 35,000 acres from 2021. Yield is expected to be 94.0 bushels per acre, up 31.0 bushels from 2021.

 

Washington spring wheat production is forecast at 25.1 million bushels, up 13% from last month and up 55% from last year.  Harvested area, at 465,000 acres, is down 75,000 acres from 2021. Yield is expected to be 54.0 bushels per acre, up 24.0 bushels from the previous year.

 

Idaho barley production is forecast at 53.2 million bushels, down 14% from the July 1 forecast but up 22% from last year.  Harvested area, at 560,000 acres, is up 70,000 acres from 2021.  Yield is expected to be 95.0 bushels per acre, up six bushels from 2021.

 

Washington barley production is forecast at 5.78 million bushels, down 1% from last month but up 117% from last year.  Harvested area, at 75,000 acres, is up 5,000 acres from 2021.  Yield is expected to be 77 bushels per acre, up 39 bushels from the previous year.

 

Idaho oats production is forecast at 1,105,000 bushels, down 6% from the July 1 forecast but up 18% from last year.  Harvested area, at 13,000 acres, is unchanged from 2021.  Yield is expected to be 85 bushels per acre, up 13 bushels from 2021.

 

Oregon oats production is forecast at 600,000 bushels, up 33% from the July 1 forecast and up 61% from last year.  Harvested area, at 6,000 acres, is unchanged from 2021.  Yield is expected to be 100 bushels per acre, up 38 bushels from the previous year.

 

Based on August 1 conditions, dry bean production in Idaho is forecast at 1.29 million cwt., down 13% from last year.  Harvested area, at 47,000 acres, is down 10,000 acres from 2021.  Yield is expected to be 27.5 cwt. per acre, up 1.4 cwt. from 2021.

 

Meanwhile, dry bean production in Washington is forecast at 848,000 cwt., down 22% from last year.  Harvested area, at 30,500 acres, is down 9,000 acres from 2021. Yield is expected to be 27.8 cwt. per acre, up 0.1 cwt. from 2021.

 

Production of hops is forecast at 115 million pounds, down slightly from last year. Area harvested is forecast at 59,970 acres, up slightly from June but down 1% from 2021.  Yield is forecast at 1,922 pounds per acre, 22 pounds higher than the 2021 yield.  If realized this will be the second highest production and acreage on record behind 2021.
