The Food Safety Modernization Act, FSMA is completely on the books for the U.S. agriculture industry.  But how it will impact local farmers and growers remains to been seen?  Chelan/Douglas County Farm Bureau President Britt Dudek told the Washington Ag Network adding another layer of federal regulation will hurt mom and pop organizations.

“I am the regulatory compliance division, I do all of the other stuff myself because I’m a one man band when it comes to that.  I don’t know if I’m going to be able to survive and do another set of paperwork for another set of federal bureaucracy.”

Dudek noted the tree fruit industry has been conducting voluntary certification for shipment to other nations.  He also noted that agriculture as an industry is very regulated, and additional layers won’t help.
