The Washington state Department of Labor & Industries is offering businesses free and confidential safety consultations. L&I’s Eastern Region Consultation manager, John McFadden, said the consultations are intended to prevent accidents, lower workers compensation rates as well as identify and correct hazards.

"They can contact us anytime. They can either go to the website and simply request a consultation or they can call and request a consultation.”

L&I received additional state funding to roll out the new Agriculture Compliance Unit. McFadden adds the consultation includes a review of the written safety program and a site visit.

"Where we would go with the employer or management to answer questions that they might have and look at any hazards that present themselves then work on getting those corrected and then we follow up with a written report that goes to the employer."

The written report, he added, is confidential and not shared with compliance.
