The Washington FSA office is reminding growers across the state to look into the program established to assist those impacted by China’s retaliatory tariffs.  Announced earlier this month, the funds are available for six commodities, wheat, corn, soybeans, cotton, hogs and dairy.

Rod Hamilton with the Washington FSA said since so much about the retaliatory tariffs remain unknown, it’s best for local wheat growers and diary farmers to apply now.  He said the application process should be an easy, especially for farmers who are already involved in FSA programs.  Hamilton said to apply, for wheat farmers for example, harvest must be completed.

“And they have to bring us their production for 2018.  They don’t have to bring us all of their records, they could potentially be called upon to do that, if they get spot checked down the road to do that, and we do think this program will be spot checked quite a bit.”

Hamilton says your local FSA office should have more information for you and can answer questions.  You can also visit the USDA’s new website Farmers.gov to have your questions answered.
