The Agriculture ministers of the G7 nations met in Italy this weekend.

“We have a shared goal which is at the end of the day I'm more productive resilience and more sustainable agriculture and food system," noted Agriculture secretary Tom Vilsack.  He added not only did the G7 Ag ministers agree on those goals but also generally on how to reach those goals.

“And I'm very encouraged by the consensus and the synergy between what the U.S. is doing on a variety of fronts and what the G7 has suggested is needs to be done in order to continue to approach the challenge of dealing with global food security, increasing agricultural production, and at the same time making sure that small- and mid-sized farming operations are able to succeed not just in the U.S. but around the world,” Vilsack said.

He he added, there seems to be more agreement than ever among the G7 nations that agriculture has a major role to play in fighting global climate change.
