When taking a look at the prices we pay at the local grocery store, the USDA is expecting a slight increase when we compare 2018 overall prices to 2017’s figures.  In fact, the USDA says when we wrap up this year, grocery prices are expected to show either no change, or a 1% increase year over year.

Currently, grocery store prices have increased, 0.4%.  Where have those prices increased come from?  Beef, fish, fresh produce and eggs.  But as USDA economist Annemarie Kuhns points, 2018 saw its share of price reductions.

“We’re fairly certain dairy products will decrease in price.  We’re predicting those to remain unchanged to decrease as much as 1% in 2018.  Dairy products have decreased 0.5% so far in 2018.”

In addition, she points out prices for processed fruit and vegetables are going to end the year lower when compared to 2017.
