Last week, Ag Secretary Brooke Rollins told lawmakers the upcoming announcement on New World Screwworm prevention efforts would be, “Probably more aggressive than anyone in recent history on the New World Screwworm.”

On Wednesday at Moore Air Force Base near the Texas/Mexico border, the Secretary announced it as the site of a new, sterile NWS fly dispersal facility and its part within a five-pronged strategy to keep this invasive pest out of the United States.  Aspects of the plan include continued partnership with Mexico, it increased prevention, and aggressive eradication efforts, keeping NWS out of the U.S. at all costs, maximizing readiness and innovative research through partnerships.

Moore Air Force Base was previously home of USDA Screw Worm Research unit in the 1960s and 70's. The new dispersal facility should be ready by later this year.
