USDA Rolls Our SNAP Work Proposal
The USDA has released its proposed SNAP work waiver requirements for public comments via the Federal Register. Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue says the focus will be on able-bodied adults without dependants or "A-Bods".
"Those non-disabled people between the ages of 18 and 49 and without dependants, there is a reasonable expectation for them to work or to look for a job."
Perdue said one issue to be addressed is tightening up on the waivers that states can grant to "A-Bods". He noted the USDA's proposed rule limits the availability of these waivers for states, and promotes work and self-sufficiency in the SNAP Program. Acting USDA Deputy Undersecretary Brandon Lipps said he is expecting a healthy response.
"We previously did an advanced notice of proposed rule-making on this issue to help us assess how folks felt we could better move people to self-sufficiency received 36,000 comments."
Comments must be received on or before April 2nd.
