As growers nationwide start to wind down spring wheat harvest, the USDA is out with a look at this year’s crop.  USDA meteorologist Brad Rippey said as of Sunday August 25th, 51% of the crop has been cut, which is just slightly behind the five-year average for 53% for this time of year; but ahead of last year’s 50%.  As far as individual state harvest numbers, Rippey said that’s all over the map.

“The harvest range is all the way from 43% in Idaho and North Dakota, up to 83% in North Dakota. Three states achieved harvest progress of at least 20% of the crop just during the week ending August 25th. Those being Minnesota, along with North Dakota and Washington state.”

When it comes to the quality of the crop.

“Shows that we will finish the year with 69% of the crop rated good to excellent and 10% very poor to poor,” Rippey said.
