The Departments of Agriculture and Health and Human Services are announcing a new step in their joint development process for the dietary guidelines for Americans.

"For the first time, before I call for nominations, for the dietary guidelines advisory committee, the USDA and HHS are posting for public comment topics and supporting questions for scientific review that will support our development the next edition of the DGA," said Brandon Lipps is the USDA's acting deputy undersecretary for food, nutrition, and consumer services.

The Federal notice will post on Wednesday, February the 28th, and public comment period will be open for 30 days. The two agencies are working to establish dietary guidelines that will cover 2020 to 2025.

"The topics and supporting scientific questions are organized by life stage. From birth to 24 months, to older adulthood," Lipps said

He added birth to 24 months is a new focus in this edition of the guidelines. The goal is to have the new dietary guidelines ready to release by the end of 2020.  The topics and questions can be found on the USDA's Website.
