The USDA are looking to “right-size” the various agencies under its purview according to Secretary Sonny Perdue.

“Certainly with the 5,000 [staff member] reduction that the 2018 proposed budget calls for, we hope to identify through vacancies and maybe retirements if people want to move on out and to do that without harming individuals.”

Perdue said he’s looking at the vacancy right to maximize the value from the agencies.

“And It’s a process obviously, but I’m intimately involved in policy discussions and briefings over what different agencies do, what’s the population rate, what’s the man-year rate and what are we doing and what are we getting for that.”

The proposed budget has to yet to be addressed in Congress.
