The USDA is undergoing some reorganization under Secretary Sonny Perdue, including a new position focusing on trade.

“We’re creating a new Under Secretary for trade and foreign agricultural affairs who’s focus will be to promote U.S. food, fiber and fuel around the world.”

The position has been discussed and planned for many years because of the importance of trade for U.S. producers.

Perdue said the new position will oversee the Foreign Agricultural Service and spearhead market promotions and trade negotiations.

“And that person will work hand-in-hand with our U.S. Trade Representative and our Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross. We’re already looking at candidates and whoever fills this role will be nominated by the President and confirmed by the United States Senate.”

Congress received Secretary Perdue’s reorganization plan last week.
