University of Idaho’s College Of Ag Celebrates 125 Years
The old saying is the more things change, the more they stay the same, at least if you listen to Bon Jovi. But that saying holds up as well in Moscow as the University of Idaho’s College of Agricultural and Life Sciences celebrates its 125th year.
J.R. Simplot Endowed Dean Dr. Leslie Edgar says while time has marched on and technology has changed, the focus on the college has not.
“Many of our producers across the state are struggling because commodity prices are down, you know, so our opportunity here and what we do at the land-grant university really well is applied cutting-edge research that we can give back to producers and industry to help them make good financial decisions in the future,” she said.
Edgar said as they celebrate their quasquicentennial, this is a good time for those not familiar with agriculture to get an idea of what it means not only to the University, but the state and the region.
“Come visit us," Edgar said. "The great thing about the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, we have a footprint across the state because the University of Idaho Extension is also within the college. And so we have 42 county offices and three tribal offices throughout the state. We also have 10 research and extension centers and five affiliate research and extension centers where we have a footprint across the state. So you don't have to just come to main campus. to see how we're supporting agriculture. Come visit us in your community and let us share with you the good work that's occurring here.”
By the way, the University of Idaho was recently ranked 15th in the nation for Best College of Agricultural Sciences.
