U.S. Files Claim against EU over Beef Policies
At the behest of the U.S. Beef industry, the U.S. Trade Representative’s office is taking action against the European Union due to their ban on importing American beef.
Trade Representative Michael Froman said the WTO already ruled against the EU ban and that, “The EU has failed to live up to assurances to address this issue, and it's now time to take action.”
The USTR will hold public hearings and seeking comments regarding the EU ban on U.S. beef before they decided on reinstating tariffs against certain EU products entering the U.S.
European officials wanted to resolve the issue through the Transantlantic Trade and Investment Partnership, but failed to send negotiators to the T-TIP meetings in September.
