Last month the National FFA Organization and Foundation announced Scott Stump as the new CEO. Stump brings decades of agricultural experience with him to this new position. He worked with FFA on the national level, as well as the state level in Colorado. And during the Trump administration, he was the assistant secretary of career, technical, and adult education at the Department of Education.

Stump noted there are currently 760,000 members in FFA nationwide, and while that may be the highest figure in the organization’s history, more can be done to serve students and meet the needs of the industry now and into the future.

“Employers are saying they still need more, they need and they are short qualified and talented and skilled individuals and I would say out 760,000 in our pipeline to meet the needs of the agricultural industry.”

Stump added the national organization will also consider new and innovative ways to research students that may not be familiar with the blue and gold.

“Virtual convention last year reached more students directly than at any other time in our history.  So, how do we leverage that to really expand our influence using the virtual technology that is kind of ubiquitous with our world right now?  I can even see it taking us into corridors where FFA and Ag education do not exist in schools, where students don’t have the opportunity, and allowing us to get a new footprint in place with underserved and marginalized populations.”

Stump officially begins his new role June 21st.
