While it's not where it should be for this time of year, spring wheat plantings have improved somewhat recently.

 

"It's lagging a little bit, hasn't made up much ground,” USDA Meteorologist Brian Morris.  “So, this week they're at 10% last week, they were at 3%. The five-year average is 36%, last year they were at 30%."

 

The most significant planting progress was made right here in the Northwest.  Idaho that went from 40% to 64% planted for the week ending April 29th, which is ahead of last year, but still 10% points off the five-year average.  Washington doubled it's planting from 39% to 78%, which is now 1% point of its five-year average.
