If you're thinking of starting your own Farmer's Market, but don't know where to start, the USDA has a program that can help.

"With the wholesale market and food facility design program, that's what allows us to do the work with the Farmer's Markets," said Agricultural Marketing Services Achitect Ron Thatcher.  He works with private individuals or local governments.

"We have to work with them from a fundamental level of, do you have any farmers in mind, do you have any farmers that are interested in selling at your farmer's market?" Thatcher said.  "Sometimes it's no, and then it's beginning to really work with them on establishing their ideas."

From there, Thatcher added.

"We go to the community to assist them in creating either a farmer's market, a community market a public market, work with a historic building or existing building and convert that into a community marketplace for them."
