Serbians Look to U.S. Cattle Industry for Inspiration and Potentially Product

A group of Serbians recently toured U.S. Beef production facilities as part of the Cochran Fellowship program looking for ways to improve their own beef industry.

Thad Geiger, a rancher and Vice-Chairman of the Kansas Board of Agriculture, said there was a conversation about importing U.S. beef embryos.

“If we can be successful here and we can start developing a market for U.S. genetics, I think it can be replicated throughout that area.”

Geiger said that protein demands are beginning to change as incomes are rising around the world.

“The market is going to grow. I don’t know that we’ll ever be able to produce enough beef for the whole world and some of the world won’t want to buy our beef.”

Geiger said that he sees cattle genetics as a very promising industry.
