Roach: Westbred Varieties Continue To Perform In The NW
As wheat growers look forward to the 2025 season, Bayer is reminding producers about the performance of their Westbred varieties. Carrie Roach, Westbred Marketing Manager said they were proud to learn that 12 of the 26 winners of the 2024 National Wheat Yield contests used Westbred. And several of those winners grow in the Northwest.
She said this track record tells growers across the region that they can have performance, great management and profitability.
“Finding that right variety that fits your area, which is another thing that Westbred takes great pride in is finding and selecting varieties that fit each one of those regions, because in Idaho it's going to be a little bit different than those varieties that are grown in Washington or Oregon. And depending on the management, the management practices for each of those growers.”
Roach added it’s really important for Westbred, and the entire Bayer team, that they talk with local growers and learn of the needs of Northwest producers, and work towards releasing successful varieties.
“And that's really where you see that come together with the performance of our varieties, the performance of those growers, as well as putting their management practices into play.”
