The Risk Management Agency is offering two grants totaling $9 million to help educate and train producers on different strategies and options to manage risk.

Heather Manzano of RMA said the grants are available to educational bodies and non-profit programs.

“It covers a whole gamut of different types of risks that the farmers encounter and it also talks about ways that those risks can be mitigated, the ways that they can be approached as a holistic balance for managing risk.”

One of the grants is focused on states with low crop insurance rates and the other is nationwide.

Manzano said there can be specific groups that are targeted with these grants since there are different challenges.

“Women in agriculture, Native American groups to help to target some of the more specific challenges that socially disadvantaged farmers or minority farmers may have that are a little bit different than your mainstream farmers.”
