A national event celebrating conservation partnerships is taking place this week in Central Oregon.  This is the first time the state has hosted Private Lands Partners Day, a three-day national conference that celebrates collaborative conservation work.

“The goal is to bring together agencies, nonprofits, policymakers, private landowners to talk about successful partnership projects," said Lauren Bennett, with NRCS.  She added they will tour several projects showcasing public-private conservation efforts, including irrigation canal piping projects that prevent evaporation.

“Now we’re able to really get more water to the landowner, but leave more water in the stream for fish, for wildlife, for recreation. So it’s really a win/win/win," Bennett continued

The three-day conference kicked off Monday at Redmond’s Eagle Crest.  Oregon was scheduled to host Private Lands Partners Day back in 2020, but the event was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
