A very dry and warm summer has left many winter wheat growers in a tough spot when it comes to planting.

USDA Meteorologist Brad Rippey said there has thankfully been some relief.

“The good news for winter wheat producers, especially across the Plains, is that we have seen a boost in topsoil moisture.”

In Oregon, Topsoil moisture is still 78 percent very short to short and in Washington it’s 60 percent very short to short. Both numbers improved over last week.
