USDA Lowers Winter Wheat Crop Projection Again

USDA’s July crop production report shows another reduction in national winter wheat crop.  The Agriculture Department Friday noted a 4% decrease in forecasted production of this year's winter wheat crop from the previous month.  This would contribute to a projected 29% year-over-year decrease in winter wheat production.

Yield forecasts were also slightly lowered from June, down 0.1%, leading to an over 8% lowering in crop yield from the prior year.  If the 46.7 bushel per acre yield forecast holds, that would be the lowest winter wheat yield total since 2015.

Notable monthly production forecast reductions are recorded for red winter wheat, 5% for hard red, 4% for soft red.

When it comes to Northwest yields, as of July 1st, USDA reported 69 bushels per acre in Washington, 65 per acre in Oregon, and Idaho reported 93 bushels per acre.
