The Washington State Department of Natural Resources plans a pair of prescribed burns in Klickitat County, this week.  DNR said the burns could cover up to 453 acres of state trust land near Glenwood, including 390 acres west of town and another 63 acres to the northeast.

The Department says the burns are designed to reduce high-severity wildfire risk by removing slash and surface fuels, while also promoting natural regeneration and reducing insect and disease threats.

Burns could be postponed if weather or ground conditions aren’t suitable.  Hunters and recreationists should check for closures and posted signs before entering the area.
