Now that we’re in the month of October, prescribed burns are coming to parts of Oregon and Washington.  The Bureau of Land Management said crews will conduct controlled burns when weather, fuel and air-quality conditions are favorable.

“Prescribed fire is one of our most effective tools for reducing wildfire risk and improving habitat,” said Josh O’Connor, Northwest Geographic Area Fire Chief for the U.S. Wildland Fire Service. “By carefully planning and executing these burns, we’re helping protect communities and strengthen the health of our public lands.”

Officials warn smoke may settle in low-lying areas overnight.  Residents should consider closing windows, and drivers should slow down and use headlights in smoky conditions.  For more information, you are asked to contact the BLM District Office or the U.S. Wildland Fire Service Geographic Area associated with the burn.
