During Governor Inslee’s trip to Mexico to promote Washington products, including agriculture, two specific commodities were part of the Governor’s emphasis.

“We got great spuds and we can reduce costs and improve quality [for the consumer] so we’re working on improving access. There are some milk restrictions, particularly for dried product, that can help people who are living in poverty have less cost in providing milk for their kids. That’s a good thing.”

There are also more high-value products that Inslee said were part of the discussions to get more Washington produce into Mexico.

A wide variety of Washington’s businesses, commissions and government officials were part of the trade trip, but Inslee said they will need help.

“Particularly since there is going to be a lot of discussion about NAFTA, we need the national government to be involved in these discussions to try to make this happen. Now we’re plowing the ground, we’re developing the relationships.”

Inslee said there is a lot of opportunities for selling Washington ag in Mexico because they can better quality and better priced for the Mexican consumer.
