Expanding broadband coverage to rural areas starts with having maps, that show the latest correct information.

"The data map has been deemed inaccurate because it in inaccurate.  We’ve relied on major carriers to tell us where there coverage is.  And I’ve taken some of these in my home state of Georgia and gone through and you can’t even get a cell signal in some of those areas where they say you can get high speed broadband, it’s just not there.”

Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue said another reason for good information is so that services are not wasted.

“Our intention is to not over build and to duplicate services and that’s really the fear often times.  The federal government really uses a lot of money through FCC, Commerce, USDA, in this area, but we have never had a strategic plan.   That’s why we’re trying to lead the effort.”

The recently passed omnibus spending package calls for a new USDA managed program to bring more broadband internet to undeserved rural areas.
