Perdue Remains Concerned About Retaliation

Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue said he remains concerned that about ag products will fall victim to retaliation in the wake of President Trump's announced tariffs on steel and aluminum.

"We are always concerned over any kind of retaliation efforts, and we’ve impressed upon the White House as well as Ambassador Lightheizer and Secretary Ross on the concerns that we have regarding agriculture and farm products being used as the weapons in any retaliatory effort."

Perdue speaking earlier this week during the National Grain and Feed Association's annual convention in Arizona, said producers are concerned there will be a tit-for-tat.  But at this point, how other countries react remains up in the air.  The Ag Secretary pointed to one way countries can negotiate.

"I'm hoping the exemptions the President has issued over steel and aluminum could be done on a country-by-country basis. I think he has said he is willing to talk to any country who wants to come and make their case."
