Oregon Drought Worsens
Drought conditions across the west continue to worsen. Oregon continues to dry out this spring. The latest numbers from USDA shows only 33% of the state is average for this time of year. Currently 45% of the state is under a D1, or Moderate Drought designation. In addition, nearly 20% of the state, stretching from Central Oregon through Grant Count to the SE corner is under a D2 designation; meaning a Severe Drought.
The drought conditions stop at the Columbia River. Less than 0.2% of Washington is considered abnormally dry.
Because of those dry conditions in Oregon, Governor Kate Brown declared a drought emergency for Harney County. That makes three Oregon counties where drought emergencies have been declared.
