ODA Accepting International Year of the Woman Farmer Nominations
This is International Year of the Woman Farmer, and the Oregon Department of Agriculture is celebrating.
Established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2024, the IYWF highlights a global commitment to empowering and recognizing women in agriculture.
The Oregon Department of Agriculture has joined partners at all levels to celebrate. ODA is inviting industry partners and the public to submit stories and photos that share the challenges and successes before today’s women farmers.
Submissions will be shared on ODA’s Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn throughout the year.
“Help us celebrate Oregon women in agriculture,” said ODA, Director Lisa Charpilloz Hanson. “Share stories about their inspiration, the challenges they face, and the benefits of supporting female farmers and their contributions to our resilient agriculture and food systems. Send us your stories, and we will help raise awareness of the achievements of women in Oregon agriculture.”
The Department of Ag said if you are, work with, or know a woman farmer, they encourage you to submit a story today. To participate, please complete the online form on the ODA's Website.

The Department of Ag added women play a vital role in American agriculture, contributing through production, advocacy, education, and entrepreneurship, while also strengthening rural communities through leadership and outreach. According to a report by USDA, in 2022, the U.S. had 1.2 million female producers, about 36% of the country’s producers. Oregon is home to nearly 30,000 female producers, ranking in the top 5 nationwide.
