Rollins Marks October As National Co-op Month
"Cooperatives embody the American spirit of collaboration and innovation," noted Ag Secretary Brooke Rollins as she proclaimed October as National Cooperative Month Thursday. She said the cooperative business model has a big impact on rural America.
"There are more than 30,000 nationwide, including food, grocery, worker, retail, purchasing, utility, housing, and financial cooperatives, supporting over 2.5 million jobs and generating $650 billion in annual revenue," she said.
And when looking specifically at agricultural co-ops.
"[There are] 9,172 locations spread out across 50 states," Rollins said. "They generate $220 billion for our great American farmers, unleashing new opportunities and strengthening rural prosperity."
With almost 25% of ag co-ops, Rollins added, at least a century old.
