NW Potato Stocks Just Under 88 Million CWT On April 1st

According to NASS, Northwest potato stocks as of April 1^st hit 87.7 million CWT. In Idaho, that figure was 51.0 million CWT, with disappearance of the crop at 83.8 million CWT. In Washington, April 1^st potato stocks totaled 31.0 million CWWT, while to date disappearance totaled 67.6 million CWT. In Oregon, potato stocks totaled 5.70 million CWT to start the month, with disappearance to date at 21.3 million CWT. Nationally, the major potato States held 133 million CWT of potatoes in storage April 1^st, up 5% year over year.

Potatoes in storage accounted for 32% of the 2020 storage States' production, compared to 30% from the previous year. Potato disappearance to date totaled 281 million CWT. Season-to-date shrink and loss, at 20.0 million CWT, was 8% higher than 2020.

Processors in Idaho and Malheur County, OR used 57.3 million CWT of potatoes for the season, up 3% from April of last year. In Washington and other Oregon counties, 60.8 million CWT of potatoes had been used by processors for the season, down 10% from the previous year. Processors in the 8 major States used 146 million CWT of potatoes for the season, down 6% from April 1^st, 2020. Dehydrated usage accounted for 26.5 million CWT of the total potatoes processed, up 4 percent from the previous year.
