NW Potato Stocks Hit 175 Million CWT To Start December
According to NASS, potato stocks in Oregon totaled 20.7 million cwt as of December 1st. Disappearance to date in Oregon was 5.55 million cwt. In Idaho, potato stocks totaled 94 million cwt to start the month. Disappearance of the Idaho crop to date was 41.2 million cwt. And in Washington, December 1st potato stocks totaled 60 million cwt., while disappearance totaled 39.7 million cwt.
Nationally, potatoes held in storage totaled 276 million cwt on December 1st, that’s down 4% year-over-year. Potatoes in storage accounted for 66% of the 2024 production, an increase of 1% from this time last year. When it comes to disappearance to date, that figure sits at 142 million cwt, an 8% year-over year drop.
NASS noted processors in Idaho used 25.7 million cwt of potatoes for the season. In Oregon, 12.8 million cwt of potatoes had been used by processors for the season. In Washington, 24.4 million cwt of potatoes had been used by processors for the season. Processors in the eight states used 76.5 million cwt of potatoes for the season, down 4% from December 2023.
