Northwest Winter Wheat Figures Up Slightly From 2017

Washington winter wheat growers planted an estimated 1.7 million acres of winter wheat for harvest last year.  That figure, according to NASS, was unchanged from 2017 and 2016 numbers.  In Oregon, farmers seeded 710,000 acres, up 1% from 2017, and down 1% from 2016.  As far as Idaho is concerned, growers planted 730,000 acres of winter wheat for the 2018 crop, up 1% from 2017, but down 5% from the 2016 crop.

Nationally, planted area for harvest in 2018 is estimated at 32.6 million acres, down slightly from the 2017 crop and down 10% from 2016.  NASS said this represents the second lowest United States acreage on record.  Seeding, which began in early September, remained behind the 5-year average seeding pace through early November when seeding was mostly complete.
