The social media world was buzzing last week about possible New World screwworm infections in southern states like Oklahoma and Texas.  Oklahoma State Veterinarian Dr. Rod Hall said there have been a handful of samples submitted to Oklahoma labs for testing whether the maggot samples are screwworms.  Another sample came in from Iowa.  In every case so far, Dr. Hall said the maggots are not New World screwworms.

“There have been no new cases of New World screwworm in that area, 370 miles south of Texas, for the last several weeks," Hall noted.
