All export markets are significant for American agriculture.  Ag undersecretary Ted McKinney, recently explained the context of the newly-created mission area of trade and foreign agricultural affairs.  As new markets open in nations like Paraguay, or existing markets such as Guatemala or India expand, everyone one of those means more revenue for the U.S. Farm and Food economy.

"We are going to pursue those, and that's the value of this mission area being as nimble as it is, we can get there more quickly, we can get in and out, we can show the love, we can help address barriers...and so far, it's working.”

These new and expanded markets are in addition to traditional and significant export customers.

"There not going to be overnight. I'm old enough to remember when President Nixon opened up China. We didn't automatically start seeing exports there, it took some time. And I think the same will hold for all these markets, including those where we're hitting the reset button,” McKinney added.
