Growers can now select the Multi-County Enterprise Unit as part of their crop insurance coverage for acreage in two counties within the same state.  The recently introduced endorsement is among the crop insurance offerings with an upcoming producer sign up deadline, February 28th or March 15th.

USDA Risk Management Agency Administrator Martin Barbary said the multi-county enterprise unit is something producers have been asking for several years.  This endorsement, available through local crop insurance agents, gives growers the option of covering two counties in the same state under their crop insurance policy, especially when acreage in one county consists of smaller parcels.

"It allows a producer that uses the enterprise unit discount system who is using it in one county, maybe he has some adjoining acreage in another county but that acreage doesn't qualify on its own for an enterprise unit, he now has the option of bringing those acres into his other county's enterprise unit and everything will fit under one enterprise unit."

With the idea behind the multi-county enterprise unit being not only coverage flexibility, but a low cost coverage option for producers.
