The 103rd Lind Field Day will take place June 13th at Washington State University’s Dryland Research Station.  As in year’s past, WSU researchers will discuss the latest in winter, club and spring wheat breeding, legislative leaders from across the state will be on hand to discuss the past session and look ahead to next year.

But new this year, according to WSU agronomist Bill Schillinger will be the USDA’s focus on soil health.  Researchers have been studying soil health at locations across the Northwest, the Mid-west, Canada and Mexico to learn what they can about best soil practices.  Schillinger said this research will provide some of the most in depth results when it comes to soil health.

“We’re talking literally who knows how many dozens and dozens of soil health publications that will come out of this, but I expect many.”

Schillinger noted this research will have a deep and immediate impact on growers across North America, and perhaps even beyond.

“Our check out here is of course winter wheat tillage based fallow because that’s the standard practice so, the question is how does soil health change, or how has it been affected, by farming differently for at least ten years?”
