Back in October, the United States and Malaysia announced a trade agreement.  Last month, the USDA-led a trade mission to that SE Asia nation.  Agriculture Undersecretary for Trade and Foreign Agricultural Affairs Luke Lindberg led the delegation.

“The agreement takes 99% of tariffs down on U.S. agricultural products going into Malaysia, and also the Malaysian government recognizes that the U.S. food system is safe,” Lindberg said.

He  noted that means less potential of sanitary and phytosanitary trade barriers for American farm and food goods exported to Malaysia.

“We engaged in conversation," Lindberg said.  "We saw excellent opportunities in soy, in dairy. We visited with a local restaurant owner who is desperate to get U.S. beef into Malaysia.”

In 2024, approximately $27 billion in American goods were shipped to Malaysia.
