Farmers may not be familiar with the Agriculture Department's National Institute of Food and Agriculture by its name.  But as director Scott Angle points out,  that most relate to this industry on a local or regional level.

“It's the primary extramural funding agency for agricultural research teaching extension,” Angle said.  “So they're land grant universities all over the country.”

Over 110 such land grant institutions that receive NIFA funding for research and extension efforts.

“What we do is money that's been appropriated by congress, we take that money and we listen to stakeholders we listen to farmers and families and youth anyone with an interest in agriculture and we make sure that those resources then are used in the most effective and efficient way to solve problems that may be limiting agricultural productivity.”

As well as sustainability, environmental stewardship, and profitability for agriculture producers and those in the farming industry spectrum.
