Only seven months old, the expanded Lamb-Weston Potato Processing facility is already making it’s impact known across the Inland Northwest and the world.  Lamb-Weston’s Mark Schuster was Plan Manager for the Richland Plant, and he says the the expanded facility can now process roughly 300 million pounds of potato products a year, and has added about 100 jobs to the local economy.  He noted that this facility uses the latest technology to meet a growing global appetite.

“And Lamb-Weston products go to over 100 different countries, so you can look at the Richland Plant, it is truly feeding people all of the world, which is pretty unique thing to be able to say about a new business within the community of Richland

Schuster said the expanded facility benefits growers across the Columbia Basin, since most of the potatoes come from an area roughly 60 miles around the Tri-Cities.

“It is a great addition to the potato needs of this area.  One reason there is an addition in this area, is that it’s a great potato growing region, and has been for a long time.”

Schuster says Lamb-Weston is in the early stages of a similar facility expansion in Hermiston.

He says that will translate into 170 additional jobs in Umatilla County.
