A Kittitas County Superior Court Judge upheld Initiative 1433 after a challenge brought by three local farmers.  The challenge focused on the state's constitution which says a initiative must contain one subject only.  The judge said that this particular case did not prove beyond a reasonable doubt that this particular initiative violated that provision.

The judge noted that minimum wage and paid sick leave both fall under the category of labor standards and therefore did not violate the state constitution.

One of the plantiffs in the case, hay farmer Brad Haberman, told the Washington Ag Network at the start of this trial this would be a long, uphill battle, and most likely not end in Kittitas County.

“I don’t think this is our last stop. We’ll go on,” Haberman said.
